Biography

Vanessa Lo is a fourth year nursing student from Vancouver B.C. looking forward to studying medicine in the future. She is passionate about research, healthcare quality improvement initiatives and work that aims to minimize health disparities through technology. Through MURPH (2021-2022 cohort) she was able to discover her passion of developing technological applications for healthcare and medicine and present her research work at local and international conferences.
Vanessa was previously a student intern with the B.C Patient Safety and Quality Council and Northern Health, and has also led a team under the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Impact [IEI] program at UBCO to develop a medical device to solve difficult intravenous access.
Her work under the IEI program led to VanTech Medical, a research and development startup aimed at creating cost effective and innovative medical devices.
Currently, Vanessa is working as a research assistant under the Health Informatics and Equity lab at UBCO, and an undergraduate research ambassador. She hopes that through joining CRN, she will be able to be partake in multidisciplinary research projects aimed at furthering technology in medicine and healthcare. Besides research, Vanessa enjoys entrepreneurship and global health fields, and hopes to one day work with the World Health Organization, and United Nations.
